into the mist—flute, oboe, bass clarinet, & percussion

{performed at the Pyatt Hall on March 24, 2019 as part of Vancouver Pro Musica’s Sonic Boom Festival}

into the mist is a contemporary piece for flute, oboe, bass clarinet, percussion, and viola. Part of my Supernatural Series for live ensembles.

into the mist is part of The Supernatural Series, a series of small instrumental ensemble works intent on evoking the mysterious. Each piece is accompanied by a poem, also written by me.

It comes,
in waves
rolling, churning, floating,

hoping.
Nature moves,
scrambling over certainty’s vast expanse

Pause.

Go!

it’s coming—
that which beats under the earth’s core pulsing, undulating,
hisssssing.....
No stepping aside

just inside

nothing’s left behind

the clouds of fog

smog
even the sounds of a bird and a bullfrog are pulled

into
the mist.

the ghost—clarinet, cello, & percussion

{performed at the Pyatt Hall on March 23, 2018 as part of Vancouver Pro Musica’s Sonic Boom Festival}

Contemporary live music recording of piece written for Bb clarinet, cello, and percussion.

The Ghost is part of The Supernatural Series, a series of small instrumental ensemble works intent on evoking the mysterious. Each piece is accompanied by a poem, also written by me.

Life,

past lives

souls encased, journeys erased, expelled.

Wanderers

pulled through the endless darkness,

like floating corridors,

the stringy heartbreak wafts,

to never leave

and never arrive.

Faint whispers,

one left behind

a host,

the ghost.
